The isolationist movement prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor in late 1941 was strong. Led by the famous aviator Charles Lindbergh and others, there were riots, violence and even murders associated with the factions, pro global involvement and isolationism. If not for the emotion and desire for revenge from Japans attack on Pearl AND Hitlers subsequent declaration of war on the US, we may not have entered into any military conflict. Although FDR supported aiding Great Britain, it would not have been easy to convince most Americans to sacrifice its young men again on “their” war… Read more if PH and Hitlers declaration had not happened. My point and question to you. What would the world look like now if Hitler and the Nazis succeeded in taking all of Europe and Russia? What would the world look like if Japan had just attacked our bases in the Philippines, and taken over SE Asia, Australia, China and India, which they were well on their way to? What would that have done to our peace and prosperity afterwards? Then imagine a world and the US after China conquers Taiwan, possibly South Korea and Japan and threatens or blockades, if needed, Australia? Will it be safer? Will they stop there? We can’t believe what happens in the rest of the free world will stop at our shores. Friends and allies and ideals are worth supporting with deterrence and at times if truly justified, with blood.
