Should environmental protection be a core Christian value based on the belief in stewardship of God's creation?

As someone who does not currently identify with any religion and ESPECIALLY not Christian but knows quite a bit about Christianity due to my past I think that Christians should care what happens to the planet "God put them on." It's silly to be so ignorant yet claim you are the best and the "children of the lord" if you are not doing anything to prove it.

we cannot honestly declare that we love God, nor love Jesus, while at the same time destroying His creation, which He declared to be good and exists to glorify Him.
